When you think of wine, one of the first countries that comes to mind might be France or Italy. However, Portugal has a rich history and tradition of winemaking that spans centuries. As a Portugal wine specialist, I’ve found that there is so much to discover and appreciate about this small but mighty wine region.

The history of winemaking in Portugal can be traced back to ancient times, with evidence of grape cultivation and winemaking as early as the Roman Empire. In fact, the Romans were responsible for introducing several grape varieties to Portugal that are still used today, such as Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz.

Portugal’s rich history of winemaking and diverse wine regions make it a must-visit destination for wine lovers. Whether you’re sipping on a glass of Port in the Douro Valley or enjoying a crisp Vinho Verde on the coast, there’s something truly special about the wines of Portugal.
