Where a strong Atlantic breeze blows through the slopes of the vineyards

Located in the Campo de Ourique district, in the old facilities of the Industrial School Machado de Castro, it has a privileged location in the city of Lisbon and, as a differentiating factor, it has its own hotel – Hotel da Estrela – where the practical component of the courses is developed in a real work context.
So for our students who like to combine a city trip to Lisbon and a wine course, this is an ideal place to study. Come and join us at:
Escola Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa
Rua Saraiva de Carvalho, nº 41
1269- 099 Lisbon
Unfortunately Escola de Hoteleria e turismo is the only school without a vineyard and winery.
But to make up for that, we have an important asset behind us here. Regular teacher at Escola de Hoteleria e turismo is Pedro Ramos, one of the best-known sommeliers in Portugal and Brazil.
With his fascinating storytelling, he inspires his students.
Especially his practical experiences, which he shares during the course, make Pedro Ramos’ lessons a very interesting experience that they will remember for a long time.
Wine Courses in Lisboa
Study wine at Portugal’s largest wine regions at Escola Hoteleria e turismo
A strong Atlantic breeze blows through the slopes of the vineyards in this region stretching from Carcavelos( just below Lisbon) at the far south-west tip to Pombal, further to the north east.
Not only does this make the sturdy windmills on the hilltops turn merrily but the wind also delays the ripening of the grapes. This guarantee a long growing season for the grapes. And therefore very aromatic wines.
This region is one of Portugal’s largest wine regions. Lots of VR wines are made here in addition to the 9 (!) different official D.O.C. wines.
The main white grape varieties are Arinto, Fernão Pires, Malvasia, Seara-Nova and Vital, while the red varieties include Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Castelão, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira, as well as international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
