Meet Izabela Kaminska, one of the teachers of Plansel International Wine School.
In this upcoming short video series, we will present you my favorite books about wine. Let’s start with something extremely simple, something that is for everybody. Let’s start with a great introduction to the world of wine, which is the book ‘Wine Folly’.
Understanding wine with Wine Folly
Wine Folly started not as a book, but as a website created by Madeline Pouquet. And that website was really amazing for me. This website gives a great graphic presentation of different wine regions, of different wine styles, and different grape varieties. Madeline Pouquet and Justin Hammack created this book. The original book is in Polish, (I’m from Poland), but you will also find it in English.
Let’s get to the contents in the book. You will find graphic presentations of different wine grapes, of the most important wine grapes of the world. Lione, Chardonnay, Gewaldströminer, Lezie, Barbera, Carminer, etc. Every grape variety is presented in such a simple way that it’s easy for you to understand what you could expect from a wine in the bottle.
Graphic representation of wine maps
But what you have in this book as well, which is very important for us teachers, are the maps. These maps look amazing. They are very detailed and they make it very easy to understand maps of the wine regions of the world. And actually, these maps will let you understand the style of the wine. Maps are really important when you want to really learn about wine.
So, Wine Folly is a great introduction to the world of wine. But you know what else is a great introduction to the world of wine? WSET1. Join our courses in different parts of Portugal and learn with Plansel International Wine School.
