Wilmy Matton recognized as consultant for German wines
From the Douro to the Deutsches Weininstitut: Wilmy Matton becomes a recognized consultant for German wine
At Plansel International Wine School, we don’t just teach wine, we live it. And sometimes, that journey takes us far from our Portuguese vineyards. Just ask Wilmy Matton.
Fresh off a two-day seminar in Bodenheim, Germany, Wilmy is now officially an “anerkannte Beraterin für deutschen Wein”, a recognized consultant for German wine, certified by the Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI).
“It was intense, inspiring, and absolutely worth it,” says Wilmy. “Germany’s wine culture is so rich and structured, and now I get to bring that depth back to our students.”
What is a recognized consultant for German wine?
The DWI seminar is a deep dive into the soul of German wine. In just two days, participants gain practical knowledge of:
- Germany’s 13 official wine-growing regions
- The country’s iconic grape varieties like Riesling, Silvaner, and Spätburgunder
- German wine laws, labeling systems, and classifications
- Wine styles, regional terroir, and of course — lots of tasting
The certification is widely respected in the wine industry, especially among professionals in gastronomy, trade, and education. It’s more than a certificate; it’s a mark of trust and expertise.
What this means for PIWS students
For current and future Plansel students, Wilmy’s new certification brings even more value to the classroom:
- First-hand insights from Germany’s most respected wine institute
- A new module on German wine culture coming soon to the curriculum
- Personal stories and tasting techniques straight from the source
“We’re passionate about connecting old world traditions with modern wine education,” says Wilmy. “This experience has opened new doors for our teaching, and for our students.”
Why it matters
German wine is often underrated, but incredibly nuanced. From the steep slopes of the Mosel to the elegant Pinot Noirs of Baden, there’s a world of flavor to explore. And at Plansel International Wine School, we believe in teaching wine in context: not just what’s in the glass, but where it came from, who made it, and why it matters.
This certification adds yet another dimension to that story — one we can’t wait to share with you.
